Detection Services undertook condition assessment of 14 km of DN400 Mild Steel Concrete Lined (MSCL) pipe for SunWater in June 2016. The original scope of work was to assess a 5 km section of pipeline. However, during the 2 days allocated for site works, Detection Services was able to collect sufficient data for the analysis of 14 km of pipeline.
p-CAT™ analysis has determined the remaining wall thicknesses for 37 sub-sections of different deterioration conditions over this 14 km section, and has also identified and located a number of anomalies including a potential service connection not known to SunWater and a deteriorated section. Another significant finding is the presence of high air content, which has likely contributed to the deterioration of the pipeline.
Following an initial inspection of the existing assets along the pipeline that were used for connections during testing, all field work was completed by Detection Services in 2 days without impacting the ongoing operations of the pipeline, or demanding any significant input from the client.
