Microbial Deterioration / Corrosion Mild Steel Cement Lined
A sample was taken from a potable water pipeline, the material was mild steel cement lined (MSCL). Within this study we investigated the presence of bacteria associated with microbial corrosion in the inner lining in comparison to the outer lining. It was observed that the inner lining had a high abundancy of bacteria associated with microbial corrosion. Further investigation into the inner lining with DS Insight Imaging found that the inner lining was present but highly porous, this was attributed to the presence of microbial corrosion bacteria and the impact of water quality. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) was also used to inspect the cement material, it was found to complement the DS Insight imaging method that validated the presence of a poor cement lining.
